Only
Kindness’ corporate vision has always focused on children with
disabilities and their families, whether nuclear and conventional or
not. This focus serves to
drive our primary project, which is Only
Kindness Care Services.
Through
years of experience, we have learned a lot about what families need and
our experience has provided for a clear project mission. Only
Kindness Care Services seeks to optimise family health by decreasing
stress levels and the burden of 24-hour care-giving through the
provision of unique care services.
Our staff will provide these services at flexible hours in a
resourcerich environment. As
one of our clients said so eloquently, “Caring for a disabled loved
one reyuires an emotional stamina unlike that for other efforts.
Being a disabled person requires a unique kind of strength, as
well. To offer a respite
and camaraderie will renew the ability of the caregivers and disabled
alike to continue.” The
long-term goals for this project are to: *Enable
families to keep their child with a disability or chronic illness at
home. *Renew
family care-givers’ capability to provide quality care for their
children. *Provide
inclusive environments so that all people can be involved in all aspects
of daily life and enjoy the highest quality possible. *Train
and employ people to care for all children inclusive of kids with
disabilities *Educate
children for compassion and diversity *Create
a therapeutic, inclusive and rich environment for children, employees
and client families In
the years that we have worked with families, we have found the need for
care to be threefold: *Inclusive
day care and education *Respite
care *Crisis
care
Respite
care
provides families with specialized temporary child care and is a vital
part of the support families need to keep their child with a disability
or chronic illness at home. It renews the abilities of care givers to
care well. Respite care can be provided in the client's home, our care
home or in a variety of other settings. Since not all families have the
same needs, respite care is always geared to the individual family. Crisis care is designed to assist families through health issues or other urgent situations by caring for children when the primary care givers cannot. For example, a family, normally able to provide all the care necessary for their little one, finds themselves faced with an injury or urgent health issue and no way to care for their child. On-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, these services are essential to support families through such crises.
Definitions of clients we serve Children
with special needs have,
or are at increased risk for, physical, developmental, behavioral or
emotional disorders.
For our purposes, we include children with a history of abuse or
neglect, serious medical conditions, medical or genetic risk due to
familial illness or parental substance abuse.
Typically
developing children All
children are unique in their development and any definition of typical
development must constantly evolve as we discover new knowledge.
Having said that, there are significant events during the course of
growth that help us know that a child is developing typically without
exhibiting any of the characteristics attributed to a child with special
needs.
